Some definitions and abbreviations

Term Definition
Archiving Placement of works in a repository by the depositor;
Depositor The author of the work, the publishing house or an employee of the University, appointed by the responsible administrator, who has exclusive rights to the work and wants to place it in the repository;
Copyright The right of authorship; the author's right to the name; the right to the integrity of the work: the right to publish the work;
Metadata Information about data used to search for it, display search results, manage data, interact with it and in other processes;
User

 A visitor to the SDS repository website, using its resources and content;

The principle of open access Publication by copyright holders on the Internet of materials to which everyone is allowed and technically accessible at any time without any restrictions;
 A work

Is the result of the author’s labor and creativity. Works may relate to science, literature and art;

Repository

An electronic archive that accumulates, systematizes, stores and provides long-term open access (or access by login and password) to documents and is part of the library’s electronic collection;

Self-archiving  Independent placement by the author or other copyright holder of his own work in a repository;
An embargo

Is a temporary access restriction placed on metadata or a document. Its scope or duration may vary, but the fact that it eventually expires makes it different from other content restrictions;

Electronic library

 An information system designed to organize and store an ordered collection of electronic objects and provide access to them using unified navigation and search tools;

Terms of use

Copyright and License

Contributors to SDU Repository must hold the copyright (either solely or jointly) or the right to deposit for the content that they submit to SDU Repository. To enable the university to manage, deposit and disseminate the materials submitted to the repository. The author/creator/ copyright holder(s) must grant the University a royalty-free, perpetual and non-exclusive license to use and reproduce the work. For more information about License, please click here.

 

Contributor’s responsibilities

Contributors are responsible for the quality, validity and authenticity of the works submitted through direct online submission or staff-mediated submission. They need to provide accurate metadata for the deposited works to facilitate searching and discovery.

 

Policy

Personal, confidential or sensitive information  

The submitted work should not contain personal, confidential or sensitive information. For instance, if your work contains personal data such as Name, Addresses and Contact Numbers, you should anonymise or remove them from your work before submission. Similarly, it should not contain commercially sensitive information or sensitive information that impacts national security.

The grounds for seizure of documents are:

1) Violation of copyright of the publisher;

2) Proven copyright infringement or plagiarism;

3) Requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and proven violations;

5) Threat to national security;

5) Falsified scientific research.

Personal Information Collected

When registering with a repository or submitting material for archiving, you must provide information such as name, email address and other information necessary to authenticate and contact the depositor. The SDU repository does not provide personal information of users to third parties without their consent, except as required by law.
