The project involves a creative approach to awakening interest in reading books among the SDU community.

     Opening of Book Club!

Dear SDU students, we are glad to inform you about the opening of a book club at our university! 


Our club is a great opportunity for:

- Expand your horizons, make useful contacts
 

- Show your ability in reading and understanding books

- Spend the happy moments of your student life in our atmospheric and cozy club!

Starting from October 22 at SDU Library will run trial access to Taylor & Francis databases. T&A is an international company rig imaging in England that publishes books and academic journals in all major subject areas.

Missed the Week of Online Training?

The recordings are already uploaded on the Library YouTube channel.

SDU Scientific Library organized ‘Week of Online Training’ from October 12-16, 2020.

As a part of the training sessions, the special guest from Central California, USA :us:- Leila Sartayeva-Francisco recorded series of videos on the following topics:
- Professional letter writing
- How to write a research paper? (3 parts)

Also, special guest speakers from Nazarbayev University were invited for these sessions, where they shared their experience and knowledge. The language of recordings is English.

Topics:
- Citations sources
- SDU Databases and how to use them
- Plagiarism and how to avoid it
- Effective email writing

"Week of Online training" for students

SDU Scientific Library was delighted to invite university students and instructors to participate in the ‘Week of Online Training’, which was held on October 12-16, 2020.
The aim of these training sessions was to improve the quality of students’ academic works by enhancing their skills and knowledge as well as to strengthen the relationship with the Library staff through this collaboration.

Participants could select which lectures they are most interested in and registered to them. The presentations were only in English language.

 

First meeting of "Book Club"

      On September 24, 2020, the Scientific Library of SDU organized a first online Book Club meeting, where students could improve their English skills, network with each other, strengthen their creative and critical thinking, share ideas, learn something and give back.

      During the meeting participants discussed Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s book “The Little Prince", played games and answered to the Quiz questions, got prizes and a lot of emotions.
 

At the end of the meeting, the active participants were awarded as following:
- THE MOST ACTIVE MEMBER - Shakhzad Assym.
- THE MOST CRITICAL POINT - Ainur Rsalina.
- THE BEST READER - Indira Nurlankyzy

Meeting with the Subject Librarian

SDU Library has assigned subject librarians for each school, who will assist instructors and their students in developing information literacy, searching for and evaluating relevant scholarly materials, and help to prepare for research, teaching, and learning activities in online/offline format.  

In the distance education format, we provide the following online services:

  • Acceptance of applications from Instructor for the purchase of the literature

  • Supporting instructors’ courses by conducting online training for students (via Webex platform or in the recorded format) during the lecture or after the class.

Please watch our YouTube channel and find our online training sessions there. You are more than welcome to put them in your Moodle classrooms and recommend them to your students.

  • Consultation through the email in finding specific materials and necessary resources for the course;

 

Orientation sessions for freshman students

        SDU Library provided online orientation sessions for freshman students at the beginning of Fall term-2020. In these sessions, speakers provided valuable information about:

  • Library Policies

  • Library Staff 

  • Library Collection & Facilities

  • Library Services

  • Library Opening Hours

Besides, students were introduced with the main functions of Subject Librariana and learned about Library Social Projects.

The sessions were presented in Kazakh and English languages. They were recorded and uploaded to our YouTube channel.
